About Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Talking things through with a friend can be a source of both comfort and relief, however a friend who knows you and your family might just feel too close to talk to.
Being able to talk to a trained professional in a confidential and non-judgemental space can feel very safe and provide you with the opportunity to begin to talk about whatever may be troubling you.
In psychodynamic counselling, the relationship between the therapist and client is extremely important as this helps to facilitate the process of change and can enable us to reach a greater understanding of ourselves.
The psychodynamic approach is often thought of as a longer-term approach although that need not be the case. Central to this process is the working through of early childhood relationships which are very often mirrored or repeated within our adult relationships in adult life. Linking up the past with the present within the therapeutic relationship brings about understanding, greater self acceptance and enables change.
The therapist is supportive yet helps to challenge those feelings and behaviours which are causing difficulties for the person. This insight can be helpful in leading to personal growth and the subsequent development of emotional well being in the client.
